I went through my old datahoarded usb and found some old music projects in xm format for Fast tracker 2 clone. FT2 clone is an open source music tracker. It can be found in common linux package repositories and is lightweight.

FT2 clone lets you create music from samples by sequenting them and adding delay and general sampling effects. If you are slightly familiar with common DAW software learning FT2 does not take that long. FT2 is simple and generally fun to use.

Original tracker software was used in the creation of 90s techno and stereotypical keygen music. If I recall correctly Hallucinogen has used tracker software in his productions. The software is truly capable of creating respectable music projects.
